Top 5 Reasons People are Making Henderson Their Home - Black Mountain

With their nearly year-round sunshine and an endless list of things to see and do, Las Vegas and the major cities in California are popular spots to settle down. However, for those looking for the excitement of the city without the hustle and bustle, Henderson is looking like a great spot.

A parade in Henderson

With its master-planned communities, excellent outdoors, low cost of living, and proximity to the entertainment of the city, Henderson gives you the best of both worlds. Find out the top five reasons people are making Henderson their new home.

1. It Has Master-Planned Communities

One of the best aspects of Henderson is the master-planned communities. Places like Black Mountain at Henderson bring the community together with organized activities, private parks, shopping centers, and other community features for residents. There’s always something to do, from events at the historic downtown Water Street area to outdoor barbecues and picnics in the community’s parks. For families with kids, children’s play areas and heated pools are a great addition within the security of the gates.

2. Award-Winning Parks

If you enjoy the outdoors, you’ll appreciate that Henderson is home to 65 premier parks with excellent features and amenities. One of the top parks is Reunion Trails Park, which has a dog park, splash pad, and covered playground. Anthem Hills Park is another great area, boasting a 53-acre park with trails, a baseball field, basketball courts, volleyball courts and more. Especially suitable for young children is Discovery Park, which has a toddler playground, a children’s playground, and open grassy areas.

Black Mountain will soon include new parks in the community for residents to enjoy. The Black Mountain Park, the Triangular Park, and the Founders Villa Park will be equipped with green spaces, landscaping, play structure, concrete walkways, and so much more.

3. It’s One of the Safest Cities in Nevada

According to the SafeWise fifth-annual Safest Cities Report in 2019, Henderson ranked fourth among the safest cities in Nevada. With a population of near 300,000, the city has a low violent crime rate of 1.85 per 1,000 and a property crime rate of 18.33 per 1,000. For comparison, North Las Vegas has a population of around 240,000, but its violent crime rate is 10.15 per 1,000, and its property crime rate is 23.86 per 1,000.

4. It Offers Small-Town Feel Near the Big City

Away from the bright lights of the city, Henderson favors local and family-owned attractions, such as independent coffeehouses, family-owned restaurants, community theater and art, and local festivals and events, such as the famous Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival. Despite its larger population, the city’s residents foster a sense of community.

Black Mountain is only a few blocks away from Henderson’s “Best Street” winner, Water Street District. The area is filled with family-owned restaurants, breweries, and attractions.

5. The Strip Is Still Close

If you’re yearning for a night on the town, Henderson is still only 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. Just a short drive takes you to the city’s best casinos, restaurants, and entertainment venues for a memorable night out, but you still have the option to retreat to your peace and quiet at home. Henderson is about as close as you can get to Vegas without actually living in Vegas.
